Frequently Asked Questions

You do not need a referral for an assessment at Bright Minds Psychology Service. Simply contact us to arrange an appointment to discuss your assessment needs. Counselling clients who wish to claim a Medicare rebate will require a referral and a current mental health care plan from their GP.

Assessments are important to help diagnoses any potential barriers to learning and to identify strengths and weaknesses for each individual. By completing a thorough assessment, individual recommendations can be made to help ensure the best possible outcomes for your child.

At Bright Minds Psychology Service, your assessment fee includes:

  • An initial appointment
  • Any necessary testing sessions
  • A comprehensive feedback session
  • A comprehensive report outlining assessment findings and recommendations for support.

When you arrive at the clinic for your child’s assessment you will both be welcomed into the room to discuss the process for the day. The process of the testing session will be explained to your child, using age-appropriate language. Once your child is comfortable with the psychologist, you will be asked to leave the room for the duration of the testing session. Your child will then work one-on-one with their psychologist completing the chosen testing items.

At Bright Minds Psychology Service we have access to a range of testing instruments that can be tailored to assess your child’s individual needs. All testing items to be used, along with associated costs, will be discussed at your initial appointment.

Appointments range in time, depending on your needs. For initial appointments, allow 60 mins. Assessment testing session times will vary depending on the age of the individual and the types of testing being completed. All session times will be discussed in detail with clients at their initial booking.

Following your feedback session please allow two weeks to receive your finalised report.
